new year planning with flow

I LOVE a new year. Seriously, probably my favorite time of year after Christmas + summer. As you may know, I used to be a hustler. I loved the idea of working hard + getting shit done. Not that there’s anything inherently wrong in that mentality, but I always reserve the right to change my mind + in light of what I’ve learned about Law of Attraction, that just doesn’t work for me anymore. So you can likely see my dilemma this year since I’ve gone from hustle to flow mentality.

I used to love setting goals, getting organized, and making plans. I still do enjoy it – sometimes. But I no longer live and die by hitting a goal – and I’m certainly not going to force my way there + make myself miserable in the process.

I’ve come a long way in the last year to heal unhealthy emotional + mental patterns and improve my quality of life overall. I do think that this year has been the most growth filled and has undoubtedly been the best year of my life. And I’m eager to share what I’ve learned in 30 days of growth – which is probably what I’m most excited about right now for 2019. But what does my new year’s planning look like this year?

I have thought a lot about intention over the last few months. I do think that intention is important because it dictates what type of energy you’re putting into something. For example, I might set the intention to get everything on my list done by the end of the day and that could mean that I end up fulfilling that intention but worn out and cranky by the end of the day. Or I could set the intention to have a fun + productive day and I may get 75% of my list done but feel happy and accomplished when I’m finished.

For this reason, I wanted to be very thoughtful when choosing my intention for the new year. I also have the tendency to change direction often and so I do typically set intentions (and sometimes goals) on a smaller scale like weekly or, most often, monthly. To help with that restlessness, I wanted something high level + easy to remember for my yearly intention. Some people call this picking their ‘word’ for the year. Word/intention – I think it’s all the same.

My intention for the year is to allow. Relaxing + allowing are not my strong suits. I am an overthinker and it often gets me in trouble. I can work myself up in a skinny minute. I have so many good things in my life and I want to stop focusing so much on the things I’m ‘working on’ and leave more space for things to be as they are and be enough. The more I think about it, the more I feel like this is my next big ‘challenge,’ to stop seeing everything as a challenge. I’m excited for more peace + less questioning in the coming year and all the little things in between!
