there's no "right" way
One of the things I sometimes get nervous about is that I come off as telling people how exactly to live their life. I have in the past been a very black + white person (sometimes I still am), but I’m realizing more and more that most everything is a little bit grey. I now get frustrated when people make sweeping assumptions about how something “should” be done. I don’t love the word should. And I don’t believe that there’s one right way to do anything. Here’s what I mean:
I don’t think there’s one right way to live your life. Go to college or don’t. Get married or don’t. Have kids or don’t. Those are all choices that need to be made on a case by case basis.
I don’t think there’s one right way to be healthy. It’s fascinating that every time a new big diet fad comes out, people claim it’s a guaranteed way to lose weight. News flash – everyone’s body is different and different types of diet + exercise work for different people.
I don’t think there’s one right way to have a career. Climb the corporate ladder. Stay at home with the kids. Retire. Come out of retirement. Quit your job. Run your own business. Go back to work. What works for you may not work for someone else.
I think maybe it stems from the fact that when we make decisions, we’re looking for THE answer - the safest + smartest path. The reality is, there’s not one perfect answer. The answer is different for each individual person, which is why we can’t always make decisions based solely on external information. Sometimes we need to check in with our intuition and make the best call for ourselves. Sometimes, that means going against what you “should” do and that’s okay.
So while I do believe that meditation is valuable to everyone, that leveraging law of attraction will improve your life, and that self-awareness is the greatest thing that ever existed, I understand that those things might not be true for you or you might take a different interpretation of them than me. This is me giving myself and everyone else permissions to do things our own way, to make decisions for ourselves, and to find our own right way!
